Masterclass Outline: Brave New Worlds - Creating a Directorial Vision

What’s on Ophelia’s Spotify playlist?

What does it mean for Darcy to woo Lizzie in 2025?

Does Joan (of Arc) prefer pineapple or no-pineapple on her pizza?

Between streetcars named Desire and menageries made of glass, classic texts are ripe for re-renderings but how do you remain faithful, ask the big questions and deliver a formidable piece of theatre?

The Director’s work is about invention, reinvention and reception but it’s also often hard to see. Sometimes it’s invisible … but behind every piece of theatre are hundreds of decisions that wrestle a work from idea to concept, page to stage, to thousands of audiences a week.

This Masterclass seeks to make those decisions more visible - giving you a practical step-by-step about how to broker, pitch and finesse a Directorial Vision or Director’s Brief starting from a piece of script, a snatch of song, a tiny idea … into something startling, bold and alive.
