Theatre Residency Week FAQs
Students will stay on campus overnight at Stuartholme School in its boarding facilities. They’ll spend each day developing their theatre skills through workshops conducted by Core Group Artists, who have a speciality in a particular style of theatre-making. Each Core Group will work towards a performance at the Showcase for a live audience of family and friends.
The evenings are spent engaged in an exciting social and cultural program supervised by live-in House Parents, who are all Queensland Theatre Company employees and Teaching Artists.
Participants will choose groups to join and work with each day, to build their live performance outcome together. These are called Core Groups and usually have approx. 20 students each. They are facilitated by experienced Teaching Artists, who are carefully selected by Queensland Theatre Company.
For their pastoral care, participants are divided into House Parent Groups of approximately 15 students. All House Parents are highly experienced in working with young people. During the day, the program is supervised by Queensland Theatre Company employees. All staff onsite have a Working with Children Check by the Queensland Government, and several staff are trained in first aid. Students are always supervised, and staff exercise their utmost duty of care in the undertaking of the week. In return we also require students to use their best self-care practices and show respect for others.
The Playwrighting Core Group is an exciting new program at Theatre Residency Week in 2026. For the first time ever, twelve young playwrights will spend each day - both mornings and afternoons - creatively developing and writing scenes under expert mentorship. These scenes are then rehearsed and performed for the participants at Theatre Residency Week at their very own showcase on the Thursday. On Friday, participants will have a chance to reflect on their own showcase, before assisting in the presentations of the other Core Groups. Participants will board at Stuartholme for the full week, and enjoy the evening cultural activities.
